GRE Subject Tests in Mathematics, Physics, and Psychology are moving to a computer delivered format in September 2023. The GRE Chemistry Test will be discontinued after the April 2023 administration. Scores on the Chemistry Test will continue to be reportable for 5 years after the test date. Read the full announcement.

About GRE Subject Tests

The GRE® Subject Tests are achievement tests that measure your knowledge of a particular field of study. Each Subject Test is intended for students who have an undergraduate major or extensive background in one of these three disciplines:

Mathematics
● Physics
● Psychology

Test Content

Mathematics test

The test consists of approximately 66 multiple-choice questions drawn from courses commonly offered at the undergraduate level.

Physics test

The test consists of approximately 70 multiple-choice questions.

Registration, Test Centers, and Dates

The GRE® Subject Tests are offered at computer-delivered test centers worldwide up to three times a year. You can register for a Subject Test online.

In order to register for the test, view your scores, and access other services, you’ll need an ETS account. Prior to creating your account, be sure to review important information about The Name You Use When Registering, including what to do if you have a name change.

ID Requirements

You are responsible for bringing valid and acceptable identification on test day, and it must bear the same name you used when you created your account and registered for your test. See ID Requirements.

Test Centers and Dates

The GRE Subject Tests are offered at computer-delivered test centers worldwide up to three times a year in September, October, and April. See Test Centers and Dates.
