Legal English (Level Two)

All classes at AUA Open Education run on monthly basis as soon as the group is filled.

About the course:
This preparatory course is designed for law students and law professionals who are non-native English speakers.
Through small group and online interactions, participants will receive instruction and professional training in legal English language skills in the areas of legal writing, legal vocabulary, academic reading, and professional speaking and listening.
This experience will help the participants prepare for success by building skills and confidence to write, speak, and listen in the context of the RA and US legal systems. Students and legal professionals will have opportunities to learn and apply their legal English language skills in the legal community by actively engaging in the analysis of legal acts and case law.
Students will develop and apply legal English language skills in the contexts of learning about legal writing and analysis and about a variety of US and UK common law topics.

Learning objectives:

• Academic Writing and Reading
– Legal English vocabulary;
– Legal English writing such as legal memorandums and business letters;
– Legal analysis of contracts and agreements.

• Academic Speaking and Listening for Law School
– Legalese;
– Small group and class discussion strategies;
– Professional presentation (contract negotiation.)

• Law Content Topics and Vocabulary
– American and Armenian legal culture;
– Legal vocabulary and vocabulary learning strategies;
– Online legal resources.

 

Requirements
Participants must have successfully completed Legal English (Level one).
